Last Sunday at the Markets

Someone call SECURITY!!!

This little guy is owned by one of the stall owners, they sell jackets for dogs, some signs and some huge pumpkins.

A new line, origami starter kits that I found in Chinatown, they have squares for cranes and strips for folding lucky stars. The paper is gorgeous, pearlised stuff. Reserved a set for myself so I can make and display.

The "Make Your Own: Voodoo Susan" kits on display.

I tried a new approach this time, took big pieces of butcher's paper to put on top of the red silk cloth that I have, so that the products stand out a bit more... and so that I can write on it ;) The basket doesn't work, so am going to work on that one, but I think the two display Susans look pretty good up there on their easel.

A close up of the display Susans. This was a happy accident actually, I couldn't find the real Voodoo Susan the night before the markets, so I took these two along instead. Same pattern, but you get such different results from the different materials.

The purple Susan is from felt, the white one is from polar fleece.

The toys in their display box. My mum had a box of gorgeous fruit delivered from SnowGoose, so I saved the box to put in the market.

These wonderful button necklaces are by my friend Jen, who organises all the arty and crafty people at our markets. This picture doesn't really do them justice, so you'll just have to come along and see them for yourselves ;)

Even Donkey's like Pete Doherty!

As most of my regulars would know, I love Pete Doherty so much I even made a toy of him (can only find a picture of the prototype atm which is v. badly sewn.. http://emerald-arts.deviantart.com/art/Pete-Doherty-prototype-67290594 will post real Broken Hearted Pete when I find it).

I found a lovely article about Pete helping a sixteen year old English boy who has the most awful sort of bone cancer, took him to a Babyshambles gig and have him his own dressing room, took him to the after party... see, he's not all bad. Now if someone could just get him to fix his teeth :P

Wish list....

Something I would love to get for mum's 50th.... but alas, am a starving artist :P

Classic Italian yacht maker, Riva, (yes, the ones that you can stick a Lamborghini engine in) teams up with Veuve Clicquot in their latest beautiful design collaboration, that makes me dream of living the dolce vita lifestyle, and has me desperately yearning to hop a plane back to Italy to relax on Lago di Como.

Cruiser Bag: Limited Edition piece (only 300 pieces available) - includes a bottle of La Grande Dame 98 and two champagne flutes. Available from July and costs $425

Last Wednesday....

Last Wednesday Dad and I sailed the Premier Cru (our 40 ft racer) down to Sydney to be sold. Sad occasion in a way, because it's a gorgeous thing, but the new one will have two wheels which is apparently much better... ok dad :P I sailed most of the way (motor assisted as the wind was pretty unreliable).

We started at about 6am, when it was pitch black and absolutely freezing. So glad I wore my massive jacket. An hour or so into the trip, which took eight, the most enourmous whale breached the surface just five or so metres from the boat. So noisy, so amazing, so many barnacles :)

This is the view as you sail into Sydney Harbour. The cliffs are v. imposing.
Not much to report on the art front, as have finally sucumbed to the family cold and sore throat, but I will paint something tomorrow... honest! Sincere apologies for any typos and/or spelling mistakes. Am orf to bedfordshire! MWAH!

Softies for Mirabel 2008

A while ago I packed up a Road Kill Bunny, a pink Katinka and a Voodoo Susan Kit to send down to a Melbourne shop called Meet Me At Mikes. I must have referred to them as little Felt Guys in the accompanying letter, because that is what they are now called. I rather like it. Pity I have already done all the official business paperwork, because it strikes me as a catchy name ;)

See the other toys that were sent down here, they are absolutely gorgeous. I really like the lovely lanky bunny :)

Long Weekend WOO!

Will do a proper post tomorrow about all the exciting things that have been happening lately, have found a shop on Beaumont St that is going to stock my art and creatures, but I am still too hungover from birthday & friends' wedding celebrations to write anything of use (thanks Kim for making me back up last night hehe ;)

Just writing as a note to self to investigate the helpful hints in the Meet Me At Mike's blog (a v. cool shop in Melbourne) on how to make one's blog look pretty: http://meetmeatmikes.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-to-make-your-blog-look-cuter.html

A real life Doll's House!

From the Art MoCo Blog:
Heather Benning’s Dollhouse is a larger-than-life piece that was situated in a Saskatchewan field. The artist replaced the back of the house with Plexiglass, allowing for a typical dollhouse viewing. Inside, Benning had redecorated the abandoned house with furniture of the 1960s, when the house was left empty.
See the Artist's work at her website. I never even had a doll house, I was way more into Lego, but I still like it ;)

The Voodoo Love

Friends of Emerald Arts: Interpretations of Voodoo Susan

For the last six Saturday mornings I have been teaching classes at Raw Jaffa. These pictures show what two of my students came up with when given a Voodoo Susan kit to take home.

Nick took home a yellow and blue kit and came back this week with this little dude. I'm going to make a photo album to have on display at the markets to show how many different ways the Susan pattern can be interpreted.

Tegan's interpretation of Voodoo Susan as a little devil guy. I like the say she's put buttons on top of buttons and created her own crazy eyebrows and horns.

Chip-tacular!

Hamish and Andy launched the people's chip "Gravy" flavour last Friday. I had to post this picture because I loved it so much. Someone should have given them checkered chef pants though :P Guessing that the chip, which is going in for a much larger production (thousands and thousands), is not gluten free, but that's ok, will just get the boyf to test it for me and describe the taste sensations exactly so that I can enjoy them vicariously.

See the photos here:

Waste- opening

The completed "Everlasting Flowers". This was my interpretation of the theme "Climate Change". I'm going to make a four seasons arrangement, so I can play with composition a bit more.

The Bonsai

This artwork was the problem child. At several stages throughout development, I was convinced that it wasn't going to work, but now I think I should have never have doubted myself. It looks hot ;)

"A Month Worth of Paper" I have a couple of reservaions about this piece. Am definitely going to re-shape the bottom the strands, so that they are more even. Not flat, just even.
